Canadian Institute of Planners – 2011 ‘Vision in Planning’ Award

On June 12th. 2011 the Grand Concourse Authority received the 2011 Vision in Planning award from the Canadian Institute of Planners. The Grand Concourse Authority was nominated by the Atlantic Planners Institute, NL Branch.

American Society of Landscape Architects – National Honour Award

The Grand Concourse Authority was awarded the 2005 National Honour Award by the 15,000 member American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), during the ASLA Annual Meeting in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on October 10, 2005. The award, in the ASLA's Professional Awards Communications category, goes to the Walkway Maintenance Manual published by the Authority in 2004.

In making the award - one of the only two presented that year - the ASLA's nine-member international jury noted that the Walkway Maintenance Manual offers, "Critical information for landscape architects to be able to ensure the future of their projects... anticipates long-term maintenance issues, " and is a "wonderful owner's manual... the design of the book is so clever." The National Honour Award recognizes "achievements in communicating landscape architecture works, techniques, technologies, history, or theory, and their lesson value to the intended audience."

Canadian Society of Landscape Architects – Regional Citation Award

The Grand Concourse Authority received the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects 2005 Regional Citation Award for the Walkway Maintenance Manual, published by the Authority in 2004.

This Citation is given by the CSLA at the regional level to work which shows superior professional accomplishment.

Canadian Society of Landscape Architects – Regional Honour Award

The Grand Concourse Authority received the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects 2004 Regional Honour Award for the planning, design and construction associated with the Duck Pond Rehabilitation Project in Bowring Park.

This award is given to work which shows superior professional accomplishment and is the highest award given by the CSLA at the regional level.

Community Organization Award

The St. John's Clean and Beautiful volunteer organization recognizes the efforts and dedication of the many volunteers and businesses, organizations and community groups that have, through their own initiative, worked on clean up and beautification projects and maintained a commitment to environmental stewardship. The Grand Concourse Authority was presented with the 2003 Community Organizations Award for the Beautification of Harbourside Park, which is located in downtown St. John's.

2003 Manning Award

The Historic Sites Association's 2003 Manning Award in the Community Importance category, was given to the Grand Concourse Authority for its design and construction of the Bishop Spencer Memorial at Rawlins Cross. Named for the late Bill Manning, former Parks Canada Superintendent of Historic Sites for Newfoundland and Labrador, the award honours outstanding projects that present the historic significance of special places within a community and the group that made the project happen. This award was shared between the City of St. John's, the Bishop Spencer Class of '59, and the Grand Concourse Authority.

CPRA Award of Excellence for Innovation

The Canadian Parks and Recreation Association 2001 Award for "Excellence for Innovation" recognized outstanding leadership in facilities, heritage and cultural programs, and parks and operations maintenance.

Trailblazer of the Year

The Newfoundland T'Railway Council's 2001 Trailblazer of the Year Award was presented to the Grand Concourse Authority for showing dedication and excellence in the development of the Newfoundland T'Railway.
